UB Chicago Ravenswood Counseling Office Welcomes New Therapist
UB welcomes Julie Rooney to its Ravenswood office. Julie is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with experience working with adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families. She uses a systems-based, client centered approach to collaborate with clients in developing therapeutic goals unique to their growth and recovery. Julie specializes in working with those who experience symptoms of mood disorders, and in working with couples and families in crisis.

Julie's approach to therapy incorporates elements of cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and narrative strategies to help clients improve relationships and replace ineffective styles of coping with effective ones. She believes that the role of the therapist is to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment in which the client is empowered to explore issues that keep them stuck and to develop a more authentic self so that relationships are deeper and more satisfying. Prior experience working in community mental health with a wide array of clients, including those with chronic mental illness such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Julie earned a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Loyola University, Chicago, and a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Arizona State University.
