UB’s Gail Richman, LPC is offering a weekly, small and open-ended group for men and women who are seeking personal growth and want to learn more about themselves and their relationship to others. For those who are unfamiliar with how such a group works, Gail provides some background on her experience and how the group works:

"I am a member of the American Groups Psychotherapy
Association (AGPA) and the IIllinois Group Psychotherapy Society and
have participated in their informative and experiential conferences
and events. I am excited about the new Interpersonal therapy group I
am forming because of the powerful opportunity groups can provide for
people to learn about themselves and their relationships to others.
"The group therapy session is a collaborative effort between the group
therapist and all of the members. People in therapy groups benefit
from both the training and clinical guidance the therapist provides
and the support and feedback from others in the group. In a typical
session members work to express their own problems, feelings, ideas
and reactions as freely and honestly as possible.
"It may be uncomfortable or embarrassing when first joining a group,
but often people begin to develop feelings of interest and trust. Most
clients find that group therapy provides a great deal of relief
because it allows them a chance to talk with others who are
experiencing similar problems -- in a private, confidential setting."
Some goals of the group are to:
- Improve self-awareness and deepen interpersonal skills
- Create more successful relationship patterns
- Learn how you are experienced by others
- Gain confidence, decrease isolation and offer mutual support
