UB's Joyce Marter Asked to Serve as Mental Health Expert for

National Business Institute: Anatomy and Physiology 101 for Attorneys

Yesterday, Joyce gave a presentation for the National Business Institute (NBI) to a large group of attorneys at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chicago. Joyce's presentation outlined how trauma occurs, how it can affect functioning, what attorneys can look for in medical records and diagnostic tests, and some common medical and psychotherapeutic treatments for people who are trauma survivors.  The lawyers received continuing education units for their participation.

Joyce also explained how UB routinely works with attorneys to provide therapeutic services to clients who are dealing with legal matters and subsequent stress.  Furthermore, UB clinicians collaborate with lawyers to serve as expert witnesses and review cases to determine whether or not a standard course of treatment occurred.
