Urban Balance recently donated to the Montgomery Village Rotary Club Foundation, Inc. to support polio eradication in Nigeria. Since the inception of this key Rotary International program in 1983, more than 2 billion children have received the oral vaccine. Despite that, political, economic and religious conditions have resulted in new case outbreaks principally in Africa, India and the Middle East; therefore Rotary is engaged in ongoing efforts to stem the spread of this devastating disease.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation donated $355 million in matching grant funds to help eradicate polio. The Rotary Foundation responded with a $200 million challenge. To-date, they have raised more than $100 million. The challenge must be met by the deadline of June 30, 2012.
Urban Balance therapist, MaryLu Halperin, is planning to partake in a humanitarian trip that is now tentatively re-scheduled for either October of this year or January, 2011. Urban Balance's donation is in support of MaryLu's charitable efforts and this important cause.
