FAQ

What is the cost of therapy?

Our regular fee is $150 for the first session and $125 for each session thereafter. If you want to utilize your insurance and we are a network provider, we will honor the contracted rate which is anywhere from $60-$125 per session depending on the plan. Most insurance plans will cover outpatient mental health treatment. Your co-payment and the number of sessions allowed per year depends on your particular plan. We will check your benefits for you and submit claims to your insurance. A quote of benefits is not a guarantee of coverage. Your co-payment is due at the time of service. If you do not have insurance coverage or do not want to access your benefits and can not afford $125 per session, we can offer services using a sliding fee scale based on your income. The lowest fee we can accept is $60 per session.

How long are therapy sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes in length.

What can I expect during the first session?

The first session is an opportunity for you to meet your therapist and begin to establish a rapport or therapeutic relationship. You may share with your therapist your presenting issues or concerns and your therapist will as you some questions to conduct an assessment of your needs in therapy. You and your therapist may discuss the plan for your treatment.

How frequent are visits?

Typically sessions occur once per week. The therapist and client may decide to increase or decrease frequency of visits depending on progress and need.

How long will I be in therapy?

The length of treatment depends on the presenting issue and the goals of treatment. Brief treatment might be as short as three to five sessions while longer term therapy might last as long as a few years. The therapist and client will collaborate to determine the length of treatment that is clinically appropriate and feels comfortable for the client.

What if I need medication?

If a therapist and client agree that medication such as an antidepressant might be helpful to the client, the therapist will provide a referral to a psychiatrist. Urban Balance has several psychiatrists with whom we collaborate frequently to help clients reach goals in treatment.

What is the theorectical orientation of the therapists at Urban Balance?

All Urban Balance therapists have a client-centered approach that recognizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship and an empathic connection between the therapist and client. All Urban Balance therapists look at treatment from a strengths perspective rather than a disease model. Urban Balance therapists come from diverse backgrounds of clinical training and have different approaches including cognitive-behavioral, family systems, psychodynamic, experiencial and narrative therapy. Clients are matched with clinicians who best meet their needs.
